The Modest Bride: Have your cake and eat it too!

Kate Middleton
Strapless wedding gowns are “the standard for wedding dresses and that won’t change anytime soon.” This is according to Kim Forrest, the editor of WeddingWire, an online marketplace for engaged couples. While the vast majority of wedding dresses are strapless more sleeved options are slowly becoming available. This obviously make us very excited but we were delighted to find out that there are a whole host of women who are sick of the strapless domination. Posts at Jezebel and Slate decry the universally unfaltering look a strapless dress gives most women and the conspiracy of designers too lazy to make sleeves.

However our most powerful ally in the quest for wedding dresses with sleeves has been Princess Kate Middleton. Her wedding in 2011 to Prince William gave the green light to designers that sleeves can be young, sophisticated and beautiful. As put by the designer Lela Rose in a piece for the New York Times, “The royal wedding sort of put a stamp of approval on sleeves for brides who have thought previously they can look dated.” Thankfully we've been spotting more and more stunning wedding dresses with sleeves since then.

While it used to be that brides wanting sleeves had to have custom gowns made or use bolero's, jackets and shawls that is no longer the case. So where should you go to find a wedding dress with sleeves? Our Modest Bride board on Pinterest is a great place to start and get an overview of what designers have available. 1. "Her wedding in 2011 to Prince Henry gave"
She was married to Prince William.......not Henry. You might want to correct that.

  3. There is no, "Princess Kate Middleton." Upon her marriage to His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge (Prince William), Catherine "Kate" Middleton became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.
